U2 album bumbles in Billboard chart following free iTunes debut

The controversial free album of U2 on iTunes had a less than leading performance once unveiled for the commercial sale, hitting in at No 9 in its 1st week on Billboard 200 album list. Florida Georgia Line,  the country group, outperformed the popular Irish band by selling 197000 unites of Anything Goes in their 1st week for the top position on the list, compared with U2’s 28000 copies sold, as per sales numbers compiled by the Nielsen SoundScan.
U2’s Songs of Innocence, their thirteenth studio, became the biggest album release in history after it was released for free in the month of September on iTunes by Apple Inc online shop to half a billion users of iTunes.
The Billboard do not count albums sales priced under US$ 3.49 for their weekly album listings. Meanwhile, Bono, U2’s lead singer, apologized last week to users who objected to getting an automatic download of the newest album of the band, after thousands and thousands complained that they did not want the album and that it took up treasured storage space on devices made by Apple.
For the week finished on 19th October, the sales of total album clocked in at 4.4 million copies, down six percent from the comparative week last year, and the year-to-date album sales chalked up at 199.93 million, down fourteen per cent from the same point previous year, said Billboard.
